Today’s pick of the week for all you movie buffs is the time-travelling science fiction movie Looper. It was released a couple of weeks ago, but since we finally got around to seeing it at the weekend we wanted to urge you to do the same if you haven’t already done so! It’s 241 with Orange Wednesday today so you have no excuse to view this two-hour montage of escapism if haven’t already done so.
Still not convinced? Perhaps a causal synopsis will coax you. In this futuristic action thriller time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the local mob wants to get rid of someone, they send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gunman like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to clean up. Joe’s high-flying shooting career means he is getting rich and living a wild life. * Spoiler alert * All is hunky-dory until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (played by Bruce Willis) for assassination.
The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels.
